Rate My Professors is a widely used review website where college and university students can anonymously rate their professors and educational institutions across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The platform hosts a massive database with over 19 million ratings for 1.7 million professors at more than 8,000 schools, which students primarily use to guide their course selection. While the service provides a platform for student feedback, it publicly exposes the professional identity of educators, including their full name and affiliated institution, alongside subjective and sometimes inflammatory reviews. This public exposure poses significant privacy risks for educators, including potential for professional reputational damage, harassment, and doxxing. Malicious actors could leverage the information, sometimes including specific course details, to facilitate stalking or other unwanted contact. To mitigate these risks, individuals should be mindful of their overall online presence; however, professors cannot easily opt-out or remove their profiles from the site.
